DOOOM ISLAND is a fictitious land rendered in glitter on black plastic. It contains: all the things your mum ever warned you about and everything you see on the news that makes you not want to get out of bed.
LOST DOG. 101 replica cardboard dogs were ‘lost’ around the streets of Melbourne two days before the show at WESTSPACE gallery- At the same time, about 500 ‘lost dog posters’ where posted all over the city. Within hours the phone was running hot regarding sightings of the ‘lost dogs’. All the text messages and conversations where transcribed onto the gallery wall. People where invited to bring the dogs to the gallery. The story became a rumour. The dogs appeared at parties and in shops.
Over a period of a few weeks during Autumn, I raked fallen leaves in my street and stored them in garbage bags in the front room of my house. After a few months, the seasons shifted and early one morning I called a few cabs and couriered the bags across the city to the back of the NIKE™ factory outlet store on Smith Street, Melbourne. The large pile of leaves took up the whole parking spaces of the staff that worked at the store making them have to park somewhere else. The mysteriously large pile of leaves stayed in position for a few weeks and was enjoyed mostly by children. This pirate intervention coincided with Saskia Andersons' birthday.

Simon Pericich’s hysterical, dark brand of makeshift art production is concerned with the terrifying awareness that humanity and its current actions may be irrationally selfish and detrimental. Traversing large-scale installation, video and image his dystopias are often nihilistically humorous, acting like an epitaph or harbinger for a future that seems out of the control of its population. Sometimes stemming from the autobiographical, sometimes detached trend consumer, Pericich’s observant and prolific practice forms transitory bonds between audience members that acts as an invitation or platform to participate.
